For those that feel that racism no longer exists in America.
A young man went to ‘Journey’s’ (shoe store) in Kansas City, MO. He bought a pair of shoes and then saw an identical pair at a different store for less. As such, he bought the identical shoes from the cheaper store and took back the original more pricey pair to Journey’s. Later on that night, as we has reviewing the receipt, he noticed that the reason for the return was ‘Dumb Nigger’. When he took the receipt back to the store, they didn’t even apologize but did admit that said ‘reason’ was in the system

Leading US Economics Professors oppose the Wall Street Bailout Plan
This letter was sent to Congress on Wed Sept 24 2008 regarding the Treasury plan as outlined on that date. It does not reflect all signatories views on subesquent plans or modifications of the bill.
I am no economics professor, but I also feel that this plan is faulty. If our Congressmen truly believe in the hands off business model, then they should allow bad businesses to fail. These guys should know better than any other group in the US.
To the Speaker of the House of Representatives and the President pro tempore of the Senate:
As economists, we want to express to Congress our great concern for the plan proposed by Treasury Secretary Paulson to deal with the financial crisis. We are well aware of the difficulty of the current financial situation and we agree with the need for bold action to ensure that the financial system continues to function. We see three fatal pitfalls in the currently proposed plan:
1) Its fairness. The plan is a subsidy to investors at taxpayers’ expense. Investors who took risks to earn profits must also bear the losses. Not every business failure carries systemic risk. The government can ensure a well-functioning financial industry, able to make new loans to creditworthy borrowers, without bailing out particular investors and institutions whose choices proved unwise.
2) Its ambiguity. Neither the mission of the new agency nor its oversight are clear. If taxpayers are to buy illiquid and opaque assets from troubled sellers, the terms, occasions, and methods of such purchases must be crystal clear ahead of time and carefully monitored afterwards.
3) Its long-term effects. If the plan is enacted, its effects will be with us for a generation. For all their recent troubles, America’s dynamic and innovative private capital markets have brought the nation unparalleled prosperity. Fundamentally weakening those markets in order to calm short-run disruptions is desperately short-sighted.
For these reasons we ask Congress not to rush, to hold appropriate hearings, and to carefully consider the right course of action, and to wisely determine the future of the financial industry and the U.S. economy for years to come.

Bernalillo County (Albuquerque) Republican Party Chairman Remarks are so outrageous
The chairman, Fernando C de Baca, made the following comments to the BBC on Friday.
“The truth is that Hispanics came here as conquerors,” he said. “African-Americans came here as slaves.
“Hispanics consider themselves above blacks. They won’t vote for a black president.”
Of course these statements have caused a great deal of controversy here in NM. Many Republicans have publicly called for Mr. C de Baca’s resignation but I just read before noon that he was retained as chairman.
I’ve lived here almost 13 years and never have I heard or been subjected to anything remotely like this here. In fact, when I first moved here, Hispanics were the only ones who welcomed me. Half the whites wouldn’t speak to me and same with the blacks. I’ve heard a lot of ugly racist things over the years, but something about this comment really punched me in the gut. It is breath-taking in its hurtfulness.

Please take the time to see “Earthlings”.
As we contemplate our future while discussing the merits of differing fuel sources, let’s also discuss how we treat the least among us, the animals we live with. This is a very disturbing, but extremely important documentary.
I watched this 80 minute documentary last night and had difficulty going to sleep. The images were too striking for me to dismiss as isolated events. Understand that what is presented here is just the trailer. I’ve read that the video is on Google Videos. I haven’t checked so I don’t know for sure.
If you are strong enough to watch this video in its entirety, take the time to talk about it to the people in your life that you care about.

The Coming Civil War
This is an original commentary that I recently wrote. I’m curious to know what others think.
Years ago in the late 80’s or early 90’s, my grandmother told me that she was scared for my generation. She told me that the social/political environment would be much worse for us than it was for her generation. I scoffed and reminded her that nothing could have been worse than the segregated society she grew up in the South. She simply responded that we would have to wait and see. Mother died in 1999 at the age of 87. The events that this country has been through since 2000 would have captivated her. She was a voracious consumer of the news, up on current events not only locally and nationally but also internationally. She always had some news program on and read many political and financial magazines and newspapers.
Over the past four years, I’ve come to think Mother was right. Another bit of advice Mother gave me was to never trust the Bushes. She said never vote for a Bush. I followed her advice and neither voted for GW nor Herbert Walker. Unfortunately, not enough people benefited from her sage advice. I am not ashamed to say it but I am scared. I am scared because most people don’t realize that we are at a dangerous point in our country’s future.

This was the first time in my life that I felt “connected” to the government...I became proud to be an American when I heard this speech given by Barack Obama at the 2008 Democratic National Convention. I now believe in the Pledge Of Allegiance”...for liberty and justice for all”. Y-E-S, we can win and we will change this world policies for the better for every man, woman and child. When you are reluctant to change...Think of the beauty of autumn. Get it? Change is Beautiful...Change is Powerful...Change is of Greatness!!!...Let’s not be afraid of change. Let’s welcome it with an open heart, open mind and open arms.
